Tolls and Discounts

Do I qualify to drive for free?

As a FasTrak® accountholder you may qualify to drive the 405 Express Lanes for free depending on your license plate, vehicle type, or the number of people in the vehicle.

Vehicles with 2 Occupants

Carpools with 2 occupants can drive for free during non-peak hours* for the first 3 ½ years after the Express Lanes opens. Drivers must have a FasTrak® Flex switchable transponder set to the correct occupancy. FasTrak® Flex switchable transponder can be purchased through the 405 Express Lanes for $15.

You only need one FasTrak® account. You can use your transponder on any toll road in California. The 405 Express Lanes exchanges information with the other toll operators within the state to provide you with seamless travel with a single account.

Non-peak Hours

Vehicles with 3+ Occupants

Carpools with 3 or more occupants drive for free all hours. Drivers must have a FasTrak® Flex switchable transponder set to the correct occupancy. FasTrak® Flex switchable transponder can be purchased through the 405 Express Lanes for $15.

Motorcycles

Motorcycles registered to a valid FasTrak account with a transponder properly mounted qualify to drive free on the 405 Express Lanes.

Disabled Veterans License Plates (Out of State)/Disabled Person License Plate

The 405 Express Lanes offers free travel for 405 Express Lanes account holders who have vehicles with a permanently mounted Disabled Person or Disabled Veteran license plate issued by any Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in the United States. To open an 405 Express Lanes Special Access Account, a copy of the DMV vehicle registration must be presented at time of account opening and may be requested annually. Temporary placards do not qualify for a Disabled Person/Disabled Veteran License Plates Special Access Account. To receive the discounted rate, the account must be in the name of the person to whom the plate(s) is issued, and that person must be an occupant of the vehicle at the time of travel in the 405 Express Lanes.

Designated Veteran License Plates (CA)

The 405 Express Lanes offers free travel for vehicles displaying designated veteran plates issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) with a valid FasTrak® account and transponder. Below is a list of license plates that qualify for this discount on the 405 Express Lanes.

If you have a FasTrak® account with another agency, please contact them to register your license plate. There is no need to have multiple FasTrak® accounts.
