Do I need a switchable transponder?

You will need a FasTrak® Flex switchable transponder to travel on the 405 Express Lanes to receive a carpool discount. A FasTrak® Flex switchable transponder can be purchased through the 405 Express Lanes for $15.

If you plan to travel on the Los Angeles Metro Express Lanes, Express Lanes in the Bay Area, 15 Express Lanes in Riverside County and wish to receive a discount for carpooling, you will also need a FasTrak® Flex® switchable transponder.


How is the switchable transponder used?

FasTrak Flex® switchable transponders have a switch that can be moved to indicate the number of occupants in the vehicle.

Prior to starting each trip, it is the driver’s responsibility to indicate the number of occupants in the vehicle by moving the switch to the appropriate setting (1, 2, 3+).

Where should the switchable transponder be installed?

FasTrak Flex® switchable transponders should be placed on the lower left of the windshield as shown in the diagram below. More on how to install transponders
